What
is MyMail Webmail?
MyMail Webmail is a web-based email program that has been created
especially for schools, their staff, teachers and students. Web-based
email is email that can be accessed from anywhere, provided you have an
Internet connection. You will also need an email account which has been
created for you by your school's Internet Administrator through your school's
SINA® (School Internet Network Administrator).
Why is it different from
normal email?
Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides a normal email account
to you at request. Your ISP provides you with a mailbox, which is located
within their servers on their premises. This is called POP mail and you
are then required to have email software, known as an 'email client' to access
the mailbox. This email software then will both fetch and send your email
to and from your mailbox to other people's mailboxes. Common email software
includes Eudora Pro and Light, Microsoft Outlook Express and Pegasus Mail.
Using MyMail Webmail you are not required to have email software.
You do however need to have an email account created through your school's
SINA®. To check if you have an email account, speak to the Internet
Administrator at your school.
To use MyMail Webmail you need an email account, a WWW Browser (Netscape
or Internet Explorer) and an Internet connection.
What are the benefits and limitations of
using MyMail Webmail compared with using POP mail?
MyMail Webmail’s obvious benefit is that it is easily accessible from
all over the world. It is quick to get to and accessible from anywhere
you have a connection to the internet. It's main limitation is that it
is slower than using a POP mail client, MyMail Webmail is also not able
to perform all of the features of a POP mail client.
Is there anyway that I can use both types
of email?
Yes. However there are some things to keep in mind if you are going
to do this.
Can I access it from anywhere?
Yes. You can access MyMail Webmail from anywhere provided you have
the following:
It does not matter what sort of computer platform or operating system you use, provided you have a SINA® email account, an Internet connection and a WWW Browser. Your Internet connection may be from school, work or home.
What
software is required?
The only software required is a World Wide Web (WWW) Browser such
as Netscape Navigator (version 4.0 or higher) or Microsoft Internet
Explorer (version 5.0). To get an up to date version of these browsers
go to:
To download Netscape, go to http:/www.netscape.com
To download Internet Explorer, go to http://www.microsoft.com
Can I access my email from outside of school?
Yes - using any internet connection from outside, just go to www.schooldomain/myinternet/,
log-in and access MyMail as normal
Why do messages seem to disappear out of
my inbox?
This is most likely because you have downloaded the mail using a POP
client. Once an email has been downloaded it is no longer accessible by
MyMail Webmail as the message has been taken off the mail server and stored
on your local system.
Why can't I download MyMail if I move it
from my inbox using MyMail Webmail?
Once an email has been moved from the inbox using MyMail Webmail it
is no longer able to be downloaded by the POP client as it is not sitting
in the right spot on the mail server. If you wish to use MyMail Webmail
in conjunction with a POP mail client you must not move your messages from
the inbox.

sort of files can I attach?
You can attach any types of files to a MyMail Webmail, for example,
images, text and sound. There is no limit to the types of files you can

Can attachments
be filtered?
Mail attachments are not filtered as random strings of characters
appear in the encoding of images, which may cause them to be filtered
unnecessarily.
