Port opening requests.
Requests to open ports
on the router should only be logged when the customer wishes to access something
that is external to the school on the particular port. Opening ports
on the router does attract a fee for service. When a port is opened on the
router, traffic can either be billed as miscellaneous traffic, or as a
new traffic type, and the time taken to complete the requests varies accordingly.
Opening a port for miscellaneous traffic takes approximately one hour of
complex support to complete.
Opening a port for a
specific traffic type takes approximately 6 hours of complex support to complete.
Requests to open
ports should be logged in the normal fashion through the management job tracking
system. The job description should include the port to be opened, the manner
in which the traffic should be billed, and a fee for service reference number.
